About David Brookover
At the age of twelve, he utilized his raw writing ability to win an adult writing contest sponsored by the Toledo Blade newspaper. On rainy summer days throughout his junior high and high school years, he wrote mystery and horror novellas on his back porch, but only his closest friends were allowed to read them. After college, he worked on polishing his skills by writing several thriller novels, but they didn't make it past third base in the publishing world (close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, right?). But David should have known better. Born on Friday the thirteenth, it was only natural that he find success writing sci-fi-horror! David was stuck in a traffic jam one sweltering summer day in 1994 when the phrase Mortal Eclipse popped into his head. He realized that it would make a great novel title; now all he needed was a story for it. A horror story! He developed a workable plot and began writing. It took him a couple years to finish the story, but he wasn't satisfied with the outcome. So . . . he deleted the four hundred plus pages with a single computer key stroke. He worked out another storyline a year later and completed that story in two years. Again, the manuscript didn't measure up to his expectations. Another key stroke. Three years passed before he put the finishing touches on his third attempt at a Mortal Eclipse story, and he loved it (the third time's the charm)! David has reduced his novel completion window from two years to ten months; he writes two to three hours on weeknights and eight to sixteen hours on weekends. Thank heavens for an understanding wife! A personal note . . .I personally read and answer every email, because I appreciate your readership and support and hope to make you a life-long reader. of the author's likes and dislikes? Reader QuestionsMy readers ask many of the same questions, so I thought it would be helpful if I answered a few of the most popular ones here. Question – Do you outline your book before you begin writing? Question – What new projects are you working on now? The third Nick Bellamy novel, Shadow Feeders, is currently being considered for publication at a major publishing house at the moment. It is scary! Nick, Neo, and Crow are pitted against savage mythical creatures that, according to our history books, don’t even exist. Well, get prepared to rewrite those books, folks! You may read a selected chapter on this web site. I'm in the process of finishing the next Nick Bellamy novel, The Atlantis Hex. Nick and the boys face a daunting challenge in saving the earth from enigmatic, malevolent forces. Primitive villages spring up along the California and Florida coasts. Monsters from our recent past roam the world again. The international space station and all satellites vanish. And, a mysterious, fog-shrouded island materializes in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. You may read a selected chapter on this web site. I've also completed preliminary research on two new chilling Nick Bellamy novels, tentatively titled Cryptid Island and Carnival of Death, as well as a new Teddi McCoy and Jackson LaFevre novel, tentatively titled The Fossil. I'll keep you posted. |
